I play Rifts, Shadowrun, DnD, Magic: The Gathering, Knights of the Old Republic, Elder Scrolls III & IV. What games do you play?

What are your thoughts on Christians playing such games? I've heard of churches out there that have banned parishioners for playing such games. Thoughts, discussion, and more members always welcome.

I'm kinda new to gaming. I got into it because my husband is and I wanted to spend more time together than I found I really liked it for myself too! I've played D&D and Magic:The gathering. I'm gonna soon be playing Rifts with some friends for the first time.

As for Christians playing such games I don't have a problem with it, and I am a Christian. I think a person should be a little cautious when playing but if you get into a decent group than it's cool. As with anything it's probably not a great idea to get obsessed with it and let it overtake your life but out of the gamers I've known I haven't seen that as a problem too much!

I once held the belief that playing certain role playing games such as D&D for instance was bad and even had been taught it was Satanic. In my ignorance of what it was all about I went along with what the others were telling me. Then I starting being with Dave, he played it and I must admit it was a source of frustration between us for awhile. Then he got me into Magic:The Gathering and eventually I played D&D for the first time. I really wanted to just spend more time with Dave, as I said earlier. But I discovered that the supposedly "evil" that I'd always been told about the game was a load of BS and since have enjoyed getting into it when I get the chance. I'm not very good at it because I've got a short attention span and no time to read up on all the books Dave's read but I still have fun none the less. When we start playing Rifts I've decided to play a fairy. I love fairies! I've been told they've got very short attention spans too and so I'm thinking I'll fit into my character well. Hurray I'm excited!!

As for other Christians thinking it is bad I just believe them to be in the same position or similar to where I once was. I feel sad for them, because they're really missing out on fun times! But oh well their loss for not doing more research, been there done that in my case! I once had an experience of a ministry I inquired about joining. It sounded like such a great way to reach others until I read that people who'd done any role-playing games etc had to pray a certain prayer to get rid of "demons" etc before they could join and then I was sad, but thought screw that!! I don't have demons cause it isn't a sin to play. So, their loss I guess. I'd have made a great counselor but that ministry wasn't my calling ya know? There you have it my opinion!! Have a good night everyone!!

Eh.
Way back in Jr. High, there was a teacher that stopped me from playing D&D during lunch breaks.
Here official reason was "It's Satanic."
I asked her how, exactly, was it Satanic, since it never mentions Satan anywhere?
She said that once you get into the "upper echelons" of the game, the Satanism kicks in.
Or something to that effect.
Basically, she didn't have a flying clue what she was talking about.

There's nothing wrong with being a gamer, just like there's nothing wrong with being a Christian.
Unless (like with anything else in the world), you're insane about it.
